Many publications have reported that health professionals are putting patients at risk through not applying cricoid pressure consistently or correctly. The application of cricoid pressure, also known as the Sellick Maneuver, stops gastric regurgitation from reaching the lungs in patients being intubated. When performed correctly, cricoid pressure can help proper tracheal tube placement. Cricoid pressure is also recommended during mask ventilation during CPR to reduce gastric distension and consequential regurgitation. Now students and health professionals can properly train to use this technique more successfully. The electronic monitor displays correct and incorrect hand placement continuously showing the amount of force being applied to the cricoid cartilage, and has a timer. Most health professionals are surprised by the amount of force required and the difficulty in maintaining that force over time to apply cricoid pressure correctly.
 The CPT includes an intubation head that will fit on CPARLENEŽ and (non-modular) ResusciŽ Anne™ brand CPR manikins. The head simulates a non-anesthetized patient for practicing intubation, ventilation, suction, and CPR techniques. Realistic anatomy and landmarks including teeth, tongue, oral and nasal pharynx, larynx, epiglottis, arytenoids, false cords, true vocal cords, trachea, lungs, esophagus, and stomach. The trainer allows you to practice oral, digital, and nasal intubation, as well as E.T., E.O.A., P.T.L., LMA and CombitubeŽ insertion. Suction techniques and proper cuff inflation may also be practiced and evaluated. Features durable, rugged, one-piece construction and bifurcated lungs. This torso allows an instructor to teach and a student to practice properly inserting a needle to permit built up air pressure to escape the thorax. Emergency care doctors recommend this relatively simple procedure to release air pressure from the thorax of a trauma victim. This model will allow emergency medical personnel to develop the needed skills before administering to a live patient. This model accepts needle thoracotomy in the second intercostal space in the midclavicular line, or the fifth intercostal space in the mid-axillary line. The model is complete with replaceable lungs, a rib cage, and a soft, lifelike replaceable skin. Unit can be punctured 75 to 100 times before replacement is necessary.

This Chest Tube Simulator/Manikin is designed specifically to teach the theory, anatomy, and skills needed to manage pre-hospital chest trauma, as well as ongoing chest tube maintenance. The right side of the manikin has two cut-away viewing areas to provide awareness of the anatomical relationships between the skin surface, musculature, ribs, and lungs. The left side has a pressurized tension pneumothorax site to relieve air that has accumulated within the pleural space and is restricting lung inflation. There is also a site where chest tubes may be surgically placed to treat pleural effusion by draining fluids from the pleural space. The fluid color, volume, and viscosity is controlled by the instructor. The Chest Tube Manikin is perfect for teaching the concepts and mechanics of closed water-seal drainage systems like “Pleur-Evac” type units. Manikin comes with two visual sites for chest tube maintenance, five replaceable surgical chest tube sites, five replaceable pneumothorax chest pads, and hard carrying case. The “trachea” in this simulator is replaceable as the “airway” passes completely through from top to bottom. This allows checking the stylet and obdurator placement once the “stab” has been made.
